The things I would say in order to describe this picture would have Sister Marguerite slipping a concoction of laxatives into my drinks that would give me dysentery for weeks; that alone should emphasize how much I enjoy this piece. The black background coupled with a clashing color scheme of reds, oranges and yellows combating with white, blue, and pale violet makes the conflict between the characters seem all the more ferocious and violent.

The blankness of the background, I think, is what makes this seem like a battle worthy of an epic, rather than a mere cartoon fantasy. The emptiness of it gives the battle a feeling of solitude, that as vicious as it may be, it's still relatively unnoticed. The ice dust and sparks, the contrasting feel given off by both of their colorations, also makes me think of outer space, where such things so extremely opposite to each other can and do coexist. Comets, blocks of ice with surfaces that boil upon nearing a star, as well as Mercury, having one side cooking in the sun while the other half is constantly frozen at all times, are good examples of the duality here.

As for the downsides to this... the only one I can come up with is that it's fan art, not something entirely of your own making. I am, in absolutely no way, no how, saying that making fan art is a bad thing, as I do it myself quite often. However, they still ask for my thoughts on originality in this picture, and because it's fan art, I can't give it an especially high rating. A respectable one, most certainly, but not the prestigious four or five stars that have gone to the others.

This is an undeniably powerful, mesmerizing piece, and I absolutely adore it. I am not an especially diehard fan of Adventure Time, although I do enjoy the show, and I think you've convinced me that I should watch it for more than just the comedic value and the Dungeons & Dragons references. I applaud your work, and can only hope that you make other pieces so magnificent as this.
