This is a new art style I'm trying out. I like the natural look it has, but I think I have to practice a bit more before I get good at it. Unfortunately it takes quite a long time and strains my wrist, so I don't think I'll be using it much. It's good to experiment, though.

I've been meaning to do some pony gijinkas for a while, but I couldn't make up my mind. I think drawing them as regular people is a bit boring and expected- I wanted to try drawing them as sort of a hybrid between their cartoon selves and humanoids without making them too furry-ish. I think I'll leave that for later, though.

I don't know why, but my fancanon Twilight gijinka is Indian. I had this image of her before I saw a bunch of other fanarts that showed her with darker skin, which is kind of cool. I think it's because her color palette is the darkest of all the ponies, so it just makes sense that it would be as a human, too. On a personal note, Twilight reminds me a lot of two friends of mine in highschool who were Indian and Sri Lankan, so that probably influenced me, too.

First off, I think its absolutely wonderful that you've taken an alternative approach to the character's ethniticity, and I think its a great choice judging by the reasons in your description. You captured Twilight wonderfully in this human interpretation, and put obvious thought into her design.

From an anatomy aspect, there are a few things I feel I should mention. Her ear is far too back and looks like its floating in her hair or stuck on the very edge of her head. Her neck also looks strangely thick, or her head is too narrow or too far forward, which makes the ear situation look even stranger. Aside from that I see no other issues.

I think you did wonderfully well as this is your first time with a new technique. I do believe the cropping or layout of the image is a little bland, though. Perhaps a closer portrait crop would look more dynamic. Composition can make or break a piece. I would suggest seeing how it looks with a tighter/more narrow crop and the moon directly behind Twilight just as an experiment and see how it looks. Its always good to fiddle with an image in this way before finishing it up.

All in all, this is really lovely. I'm very sorry to hear that you had some nasty feedback for interpreting Twilight as an Indian, I think that's ridiculous. Keep up the wonderful work, and I do hope this crit was helpful to some degree!

I love it! I don't see why people get into debates about Twilight being dark-skinned as a human, at the end of the day, she is a cute purple pony and there is no right or wrong way to draw her as a human. If you don't mind me asking, what program did you use to draw this?

My head canon always puts her as either Japanese or Indian, myself, sometimes mixing the two. This is mainly because almost all of the best Humanizations have her as such, and I love it.

I'd be lying if I said this wasn't my favourite interpretation of Twilight ever. Man, your style is beautiful, even if it is experimental. <3

This is my favorite version of human Twilight out of all the ones I've seen so far, and it will likely stay that way! I absolutely love your drawing style (THOSE EYES.) , and this design is well thought out and perfectly fitting to boot! Race-wise, I've always pictured Twilight as olive-skinned, Greek perhaps...race is difficult to decide with the ponies, because race isn't necessarily conveyed by voice or personality, but I feel you've handled it nicely. You've certainly succeeded in capturing Twilight's character through this piece, and I'm thoroughly impressed.

That said, well done!

haha, my headcanon for twilight sparkle is indian twi too !

it's mostly because the indian side of my family has a long tradition of excelling academically. my great grandmother apparently continued her studies after having an arranged marriage in her teens and became a doctor due to her hard work and natural talent which is AWESOME bearing in mind that this probably would've been almost a century ago now.

it just reminds me of how twilight is so studious, haha. if she was human, she'd probably study to become a doctor or mathematician or something.

It's disappointing that anyone is surprised by her skin color here. I never imagine all the ponies as white. I think of them as varied colors, since I usually see varied colors of skin in real life, and they do have varied looks in the show after all. I usually see twilight sparkle drawn as a light skinned asian. It's good to see variety.

The only way I can see someone being surprised is if the ponies are all drawn as one specific race, as I often see people do--drawing every one of them with white skin.

She looks pretty and i like her expression, it's a good drawing.
