WARNING: LONG-ASS COMMENT

It's her behavior. I have no doubt that "silly and energetic" is what is being aimed for but what Pinkie ends up actually hitting, in my opinion, is "unintelligent and irritating." The most visible examples, perhaps the best ones, are the "parasprite" episode and the "green is not your color" episode. In the former, the story hinges entirely upon Pinkie Pie doing whatever it is she does while a veritable plague devours Ponyville, instead of stopping for five seconds to say "oh yeah, you need music to counteract the creatures that are EATING OUR HOMES." She knew what the parasprites were and were capable of, so why didn't she just say it from the top? Then the mane cast could've all gone looking for instruments and even if it took somepony two trips, the episode would've been over in five minutes, tops.

In the latter, if Pinkie Pie hadn't been so gung-ho about Fluttershy and Rarity not knowing that the other was miserable with Fluttershy getting all the attention that Rarity wanted, again the episode would've been over in five minutes. What's worse about this is that she drags Twilight into it. It is worth noting that when the pony who's whole characterization at this point involves literally needing to be taught about friendship is saying "hey, maybe we shouldn't be keeping these two friends out of the loop", maybe you should just stop jumping out of random shit to yell FOREVER ad tell your friends what's going on. If Twilight had gone to, say, Applejack for advice instead of the village idiot, again the episode would be over in five minutes.

And mind you, this is just the canon. Let's not even touch the fanfics where she's a murderous psychopath.

*whew*

Sorry about that. Again, I must stress that this is my opinion. This is not why you should dislike her, merely why I do.

She did try to tell everyone about the parasprite, several times actually. While she didn't tell it like everyone else would do, no one waited to listen to her, even though they know how she acts. No one never ask her about the instruments, even when she says she knows about the parasprites. And would you believe that they would trust her if she said it, if you think about how they acted when she talked.

While I get why keeping a secret to the extent isn't really the smartest thing, do you remember when she mistook that everyone disliked her? She is dependent on her friends, the very fabric of her happiness and being is dependent on her friends and she would keep a secret forever because she doesn't want to lose them. She even says it, "Losing a friends trust is the fastest way to lose a friend."

I'm not saying that she's (Einstein * Buddha)^Jack Black, she's not a idiot either. That's how she is. She depends on her friends and would do anything to make them smile and she looks at life on how to make if more fun. She IS the Element of Laughter after all. She ain't perfect, but would you want her to be?

And why would you even include fan content in your argument? It has nothing to do with the show except the characters who are portrayed in different ways(mostly stupid, like psycho pinkie). If I've learnt anything from shows, is that fans should be kept FAR AWAY from the storyboard. They shouldn't even be allowed to glance at it.

Also. This is a show for kids. It was never meant for people over the age of 8 and that our fanbase even gets recognized and that they give us winks from time to time(like derpy/ditzy etc) is unbelievable. The show is meant for kids to let them have fun and learn different lessons in friendship. And what better lesson was learned from those two episodes?

BTW. Dude, you call that long-ass comment? Pff. I write comments in the size of novels everyday about why I like cheese. :P

Now, props to you for at least being polite, unlike OTHER people in this fandom who refuses to let a sentence go without calling someone a dick.

note: This is the second time I write this comment. The last one got lost after a miss click on the back button, erasing everything. The first one was way longer.:D

HOLY FUCK THAT COMMENT WAS LONGER THAN LONG-DICK JOHNSONS' DICK

(and believe me he had a fuckin' long dick, hence the name)

Anyway, yes she did try to tell the rest of the mane cast about the p-sprites, but if Star Trek taught me anything (you know, the one episode with the entire species that speaks only in metaphor and should've rightly vague'd itself to death centuries ago,) it's that communication doesn't count for shit unless both parties know what the other is saying. As for trusting her, you know how Batman has all the crazy over-prepared things, but his teammates and subsequently we only find out about the things when it comes time to use them, like the spare personality he gave himself to prevent mind control? Yeah, that's a better way to go about doing that.

Keeping secrets sometimes means keeping friends. Got it. Now, let's look at that from a different direction, and sum it up in a sentence; "You knew about this the whole time, and you just let me stay miserable? How could you?!" Okay that was two sentences but hopefully you see my point.

And here's why I would include fan content; Derpy Hooves, and every character like her. Derpy in particular is my favorite, and it seems wrong to reference one character fleshed out by the fandom and not include all of them for fairness' sake if nothing else.

And true, it is easy to forget that this show was originally intended for kids sometimes what with all the parental bonuses they throw in, like the ponified characters from The Big Lebowsky cameoing in the "Cutie Pox" episode, but personally I never really cared for the storylines that involved plot-induced stupidity (or at least plot-induced poor judgement) especially from characters that are supposed to be smarter than that, such as Twilight.

And finally, thank you for recognizing the spirit of friendly debate with which this little conversation was intended. I see no reason why membership in a fandom should exclude civility, myself.

Sorry for taking long, I gather information to be well prepared. :P
I've never seen Star Trek or the Batman series, I've only seen a few Batman movies. But, well, if you remember, the group only became friends through Twilight. If it wasn't for her, none of them would have been friends like they are now. This is show many time through out the episode when some characters literally run away from each other to stay away. This, combined that they didn't know each other then by names, lead to that they didn't understand her and didn't stay long enough to trust her. Also, the fact that it was a emergency and Celestia was arriving soon, lead to enormous amount of stress and didn't help one bit. This all combined gave those results you see and later gave the lesson in friendship everyone needed.

Yes. I do see your point completely. I did it the first time. And I don't have anything more to say other repeating the stuff I said in last comment. But, think like this, she might not wanted to risk it? Twilight was still new to the friendship thing still, so that may had something to do with her judgment. Now this is just speculations, so I better move along before I over do stuff.

Yes. But let me tell you one thing. When did Derpy/Ditzy(the show needs to choose one of these soon) ever do a impact on the plot? Actually, the name Ditzy Doo wasn't even supposed to be hers. It was just a name they said just to explain why the birds are late in Winter Wrap-up. She isn't even a background character anymore. She is now just a Easter egg, a "wink" or Find Waldo character, from the studio to say that they recognized us and like what we are doing. She doesn't even have a personality that's canon. The word "Muffins" was spoken by two other ponies at the same time, so the only voice we have heard of her is from "Green Isn't Your Color" when she gasps at Fluttershy. The fanfic "Cupcakes" never had any impact on the episodes. It was written before "Party of One" and the fanfic never mentioned flat hair, imaginary friends or anything. It was just a shock-horror story.
Canon is when the show, the studio or the developers(sometimes) say it's true and they know that you shouldn't let fans have a impact on the plot/story. So, and I do regret saying this a lot, but Derpy/Ditzy have no personality or voice what-so-ever. If she does get one, then it's canon for her only, not for other fan content.

You know, it is quite awesome with all the ponified(whatever it's called) characters from other movies. They have already done more characters that look like other doctors from Doctor Who.

...

I have a funny feeling now. It seems that I could have made this comment longer somehow.

Ffffffffffair enough. Excellent points all around. I still don't like Pinkie.

Actually, you bring up a good point here, one that I hadn't considered. Namely, that Twilight was still very new to this whole "friendship" thing. Hell, she had to consult a book, several times no less, to throw a slumber party. Not exactly a people-pony, this one.

...You might've just made a decent argument for fanon over canon, there. Personally, I like Derpy, and will continue to do so. In a broader sense, I've always been a fan of the character that patters around just behind the action, doing whatever it is they do, usually humorous, while the story goes on around them. See the chess episode of Cowboy Bebop, where the three serious characters talk amongst themselves, oblivious to the comedy relief's actions until she rather loudly electrocutes herself. They pause long enough to watch her flail around for a bit, sit back up, and resume what she was doing before continuing their conversation as if nothing had happened. This remains, to this day, one of my favorite moments in anime.

...

I also have a funny feeling, but I'm thinking I used too many commas somewhere. Like, way, waaaaaaay too many, commas that is.
